I found a document out there that had the changes side by side, it was great. My code only does the equivalent of the current code with the 4010 to 5010 changes. More data elements would be required to have 837i billing.

This is not a general forum for X12 5010 programming. It’s very specific to the OpenEMR application which already handles X12 837p claims in 4050 format. If you are developing a new/different application we won’t be much help. However OpenEMR will run just fine using MAMPP on a Mac… maybe you should save yourself the trouble of starting from scratch.

Google “ANSI 837 V5010 TO MCS-1500 Crosswalk” to find data table in PDF format created by CMS to “help you with correct claims submission during and after your transition to ANSI 837 v5010.” I have successfully used table to add a few lines of code that specifies the Initial Treatment Date (line 14) in the X12 file going to CMS.

Regarding 5010 development: I hereby designate Rod Roark as the project lead for this. :-) Please coordinate your development efforts on this important issue. I’d hate to see a bunch of independent solutions that conflict.
I suggest a new thread and/or a wiki design and planning page to work out what needs to be done and who will work on what part of the process…
