What is the intended purpose of - Allow multiple databases

Can one of you shed some light on the uses for the Multipledb module?
I have searched the documentation but there is nothing that explains what this was built to do.

This is a feature Matrix brought in for twofold reasons:

  1. Provided an example of a Zend module
  2. They used this to be able to have OpenEMR connect to more than 1 database. In their case, I think they had a centralized database that held universal ids for patients.
