Virtual appliance openemr 2.8.2 problems

I am having some problems with Brady Miller’s 2.8.2 virtual appliance running under VMPlayer 2.0 on Windows XP Pro.  First one is when I go to log on to Openemr using Mozilla Firefox.  I can log on from within the appliance and I can log on from the host OS, but when I try to log on from one of my networked computers it will not let me in and usually times out.  Then second problem is when I try to make my Brother laser printer avaiable to use under Mandriva.  I get to the point where it is trying to install the CUPS server and it always fails to install on the appliance and I am stuck without access to my printer while using the appliance.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to set a static IP for the virtual machine to use.
I’m using the VM from Rod, and it don’t have the printer installed.

It converts the print to a PDF document and you http to that and then print from your PC, adds one step but it’s ok.

I think you can use Brady’s the same way, just print to a PDF stored on /var/www/html/print I think.

Thanks Brian

I changed the IP to static and that got my virtual machine to connect ot my LAN but it still wouldn’t let me log on to it from one of the network computers.  And to make things more interesting it now won’t let me log on from the host OS. It just gets better and better.

hey,
Regarding the networking issues. Sounds like you may have the windows XP firewall turned on(can turn it off or at least open port 443). Both dynamic and static IP addresses will work. Static is much nicer, though, because then your appliance will always keep the same IP address. I’d ensure your newly assigned static IP address isn’t conflicting with other IP addresses on your network.
Regarding the printer issues. I’m assuming you followed the instructions in the ‘user manual’ at http://www.bradymd.com/appliance/documentation.html in section ‘Printer Setup’. Briefly, per the manual:
When you plug the printer into USB port it should show up on a button at the top of the VMware Appliance Frame. To make the printer available to the appliance, you need to click on this button. With the printer(I installed ‘hp laserjet 3015’) I first attempt to install via Mandriva OS tools, which installs CUPS. As you’ll note in the manual, I was actually initially unable to install the printer, so I then logged directly into CUPS to install the printer.
Let me know if the above helps.

Thanks for the input Brady.  I finally got the appliance to connect to my network and let me in yesterday by changing the IP addresses to static on all 3 net cards and re-booting my XP machine.  But like you said when I tried to install the printer the Printer Drake program saw that it was there but was unable to install the CUPS server software for it.  And I have to confess that I don’t know how to log directly into the CUPS software.  Also every time that I tried to print a page from the appliance it came back with the error that it was unable to connect with the CUPS server so I am assuming that it isn’t installed as part of the initial installation of the OS.
