I found out about openemr and I like it for our eye hospital use.
I have been able to install and set it up with the ophthalmology files. I want to use it for carrying out tests, investigations prescription but the billing I want to use Phreebooks. How about that?
Secondly is there anything I need to do for an eye hospital after adding the ophthalmology zip files?
You are in luck, wait till fsgl joins the discussion! I suppose you are using Phreebooks, if not try to stop that thought. If it is in use, learn OpenEMR and get comfortable with the team of the Clinic and after that jump to the obvious conclusion. Since all is included in OpenEMR. That is to say, somewhere, and sometimes it needs to be activated or filled with codes and the correct connections.
Start with the DIY WIKI page. Next the Manual and followed by reading the Forum frequently, you won’t be disappointed.
Charges Panel was written with our colleagues, from developing nations, in mind.
I presume that most patients are self-paying and that submission to insurance companies for reimbursement is not a concern.
It’s understandable to use that which is familiar, but the Billing Module is better integrated than PhreeBooks could ever hope to be. If your Eye hospital cares for thousands of patients every month, the workflow will be vastly improved deploying resident modules.
It is crucial to master all of the user material in the Wiki. About 75% of the questions posed in the Forums can be answered by reading the Wiki.
Thanks fsgl for your response. Why I am considering using Phreebooks is because we need a complete Accounting Software that will handle all our financial transactions alongside the Clinics’ transaction.
Kindly air your views.
OpenEMR won’t be able to handle payroll and income tax withholding. It does a great job for patient billing, however. One of our forum members, Frankie Brooks, uses the freeware, TimeTrex for payroll and employee time sheets.
The Dispensary Module is very good for pharmaceutical drugs and inventory tracking of non-drug items.
We would suggest that you use as much of OpenEMR’s offerings as possible. Supplement with freeware where necessary.
If you have difficulty locating a module, either Pimm or I would gladly help.
Thanks fsgl,
Thanks for all your advice.
In a situation where you have to generate an Income Statement, cashflow, Balance sheet for government tax purposes, also entering your rent, Assets and depreciation, and other financial input, what do we do. I so much like the Openemr for it can handle all about the eye clinic.
The Accounting aspect is also very crucial for the presentation of your financial statement for the various regulatory bodies.
Moreso, the clinic has two grades of patients and the management want to get the income generated by each of the grade.
How do I handle this. For I know an accounting software can do this perfectly. what is your take on this. Kindly let me know.
One more question; I want to know if I can use a stylus on openemr. E.g. on examining a patient’s eye and I want to put that a pictoral illustration, is it possible with openemr using a stylus to draw objects into it?
Kindly let me know
I am almost positive that your Eye hospital is located outside of the U.S., perhaps Africa. What I know about filing tax returns is applicable only to a solo medical practice in the U.S.
If you have used PhreeBooks for accounting, tax filing and govenmental regulatory reporting successfully, you should continue to use it. OpenEMR was not designed for such purposes.
If the hospital has a two tier fee schedule, it can be set up as such. We will try to help if we have more details.
In our office we employ a very low tech method to incorporate drawings into the clinical notes by using NationNotes. General Ophthalmologists like myself can get away with this method, but my Retinal colleagues would have great difficulties when they are unable to draw into the record.
Drawing software and drivers for the stylus are not features of OpenEMR but that is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.
