Users in Central Florida

Hello,
I’m assisting an organization implement OpenEMR and I think it would be helpful to see it in action at a practice. Anyone in the Central Florida area (including Tampa, Daytona, Melbourne) have it up and running at their practice? If so, would you be willing to allow us to visit and see your implementation of it during working hours? Thanks!

I too am hoping to see it in action anywhere in Florida.  I have heard such great things, but it is so comprehensive, I’m afraid I can’t see the forest for the trees.  I just need a quick look-see high-level view of workflow, any help and/or contact information would be greatly appriciated.  I am not a deep pocketed vendor, but perhaps a lunch would be in order.

Yes I have, and it was useful, but we sort of need to get a more concrete understanding of a real office workflow.
I need to move past saying “This is how it should work.” into the realm of “This is how I saw it work.”

Hello David,

Thank you very much!
We are a Pediatric GI Specialist group on the west coast of FL,  Do you think Phychiatric use will be close enough to be an appropriate demo?  (I’m honestly not sure, but what do I know?)

Paul,

Honestly, I’d say the experience would surely be worth the trip over here.
I would have jumped at the chance to do what you’re doing, if I had the opportunity.

You are most welcome to see how we operate.

We tried Office Ally (to rigid) and then Practice Fusion (to clunky, plus it lost some of our encounter data).
When we discovered OpenEMR we jumped on it for it’s extraordinary flexibility, capability, robust nature and ease of use.

We’re not using all of the system’s capabilities that you might because we don’t do “medical procedures”, we don’t keep track of any supplies and we only bill a dozen or so CPT codes.  So the complexity in the system set-up for Pediatrics is going to be a bit more than what we had to do for a psychiatry practice.

That being said, we use the calendar functions for appointment scheduling and tracking.  Doc uses the built in CAMOS module to generate her notes, she also uses the add on Allscripts e-prescribe module (where allowed).
She works mostly on her laptop but she also has a tablet for use on road trips to Assisted Living Facilities in the area.

We use the electronic billing module to generate x12 batch files for direct submission to Medicare (Medicare only at this point) and we’ve just reached the point where we’ve outgrown printing 1500’s for the commercial insurance claims, so  we’re getting ready to shift everything to a clearinghouse.

We have been up and running steady since Jan of 2012 and we’re approaching 1,000 patients with no problems.

I built the server (it’s on site) and I remotely backup, upgrade, patch and monitor everything from home.

The best time to visit us is late on a Monday morning as Doc is out doing ALF visits and returns 11-12.
I will be unavailable for the next two weeks so Feb 25th is the first available day for a visit.

Drop me an e-mail to let us know what you decide.

You may also reach Dr VanVleet’s executive assistant Shana at
info@flpsychiatry.com to set up a visit.

Regards,

David
