Use database for students

Hi,

I wonder if we can use OpenEMR data for students and education use

Hello @suzanphd

Welcome to the OpenEMR community!

Yes indeed, several schools around the country have used OpenEMR and a collection of demo data for educational purposes.

If you just want to download and install OpenEMR then use it with some demo data to teach a class? Definitely, and it would be completely free of charge. The only catch would be that you need to locate somebody who has the IT skills to do that.

If your mission is more complex you might want to define your needs more narrowly and familiarize yourself with basic Open Source principles to be sure you conform with copyright law.

You can download the OpenEMR application itself here:

and find information on demo data here:

Good luck, and come back here if you have any more questions.

@suzanphd Yes you can

So, OpenEMR could be used for employee records, too, I guess.

t can be, but it depends on your practice. For example, if you are in the US, you would need to comply with HIPAA regulations. If you mean employee health records, that is possible, but adjustments would be required — for example, setting up an employee clinic (Occupational Health). Keep in mind that this is not the same as an HR system. but you may store employee recoreds like physcian licnse etc.. whatever fileds are showen. “you customize allot of things”

As @mkm1971 said, you can customize a lot of things. I have worked with OpenEMR used as a HR employee records system, not as health records. But the field labels were extensively modified to suit HR.

It does not matter to the EMR what data is put into the fields, only to the user that the field labels are what they need to use and the data is manipulated in the desired manner. Remember that in the LBFs, both custom and for demographics etc, you can make the labels whatever you want.
