This is a classic example of people duplicating an existing feature. Unless of course your addon builds on NationNotes?

and search the wiki for other information on NationNotes.
NN also uses OpenEMR’s LBF capability to do precisely what you’re talking about.

It’s totally integrated into OpenEMR, it’s already documented, and it’s free for the effort required to learn how to use it.

Thanks for the reply - yes NationNotes is a strong, well-documented feature and we are not trying to replace or duplicate it.

The distinction is:

  • NationNotes is a structured note framework built with LBF for complete clinical documentation.

  • Smart Phrases is a lightweight dot-phrase tool like feature for inline text insertion inside any LBF textarea (e.g. Type**.hpibackpain and ctrl+S** - can replace a whole template at it place in exact formatting the template was built).

In short:

  • NationNotes = full, structured notes

  • Smart Phrases = quick reuse of repetitive text, similar to the dot-phrase / SmartPhrase workflows providers are used to in enterprise EMRs (like EPIC).

Its an useful Enhancement - Smart Phrases for speed and consistency during everyday typing.
