Signature Capture Pad

We have workers comp patients that have forms from the state that require the patient to sign in person.   Currently we have to print the form, then have patient sign form, then scan into openemr.   I would like to eliminate the printing step and just have the patient sign a signature pad that puts their signature onto the signature line of the PDF version of their form.

Is anyone using signature capture in their office?  I am looking for something Mac specific too.

Thanks.

Mike;

If the state requires a signature, will they allow a digitized?  We have had some problems when we have tried to send a photocopy.  If that’s not an issue, you could use a process similar to the …/camos/notegen.php which allows user signatures to print directly.  Then you can use any scanner, and I think most tablet notebooks could work directly, to capture the signature.  Mind you, I have not done so.  Let us know how you make out.

Thanks Joe.

I am currently making use of notegen.php for printing the providers signature on the state forms and doctor’s notes.  I just wasn’t sure I wanted to do the same with all the patients that need to sign this particular form on a regular basis.  I will you keep you posted on my findings.

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out how to use the signature pad with the oemr. Can someone point me to a step-by-step direction? Would greatly appreciate it.

Mike,

Did you have any success with using the notegen.php method for electronic signatures? If so would you give me an idea as to how to use it within the software, I have a similar issue and I have to have some way to sign my patient records without having to print and re-scan them.

Thanks,

Michael

I know this topic has been closed a while, but here’s an implementation of a signature pad using jQuery. Could be useful: http://thomasjbradley.ca/lab/signature-pad

For Mac OS X Lion, and maybe for Snow Leopard, there is an ability to add signatures to pdfs via scanning a signature (say on the back of a business card) and importing directly into a pdf document.  I also think that there was a bill signed into law by President Clinton that allows digital signatures to carry the full weight of pen and ink signatures, so that also should not be an issue.  Granted, I am no legal expert, but I am pretty sure that this should work pretty well if the forms you want signed are already in a pdf format.

Also, my last post should have included that the scan was done via the built in webcam on a macbook air.  Should work for any webcam on any model though.
