We definitely should do this. We did try unsuccessfully back in 2013:

We should start working on and plan it very far in advance.

All organizations wishing to be a part of GSoC 2017 must complete their application by February 9, 2017 12:00 (Eastern Standard Time).
Maybe next year! Should have looked more closely before posting.
