Sharing of specialty forms/templates: Neurology, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology?

meddev wrote on Tuesday, April 16, 2013:

I asked about Ophthalmology last week with great success! Thanks guys!

There seems to be little sharing of templates/forms other than what is in
the contrib or when asked(which is great), does everyone “roll there own” or am
I missing a place where these templates are shared? I have no problem rolling my
own for production use but for demo’s it does not make sense. I can demo around the
lack of templates but showing is always better.

I found the Neuro forms on contrib but no Gastro. Can anyone share anything
that’s been done for Neurology or Gastroenterology?

Most physicians use SOAP notes, therefore it is not necessary to go through all the trouble of LBV forms. Ophthalmology notes are unique and very different from the rest of Medicine. I remember when I was in training that the other residents would have a difficult time reading our notes. They would get the Impressions and Suggestions but would be clueless about the rest of the note or consult, so they end up telephoning us for a “translation”.

If you have proprietary concerns while marketing your product, you can demonstrate one of the finished forms. I seriously doubt the average Ophthalmologist would be able to figure out the configurations of the LBV form just looking at the end result. If they can figure it out themselves, they would not need your support in the first place. From the EHR forum at the American Academy of Opthalmology website, I have the impression that very few Ophhthalmologists customize their own forms because there are a bunch of posts of colleagues offering to sell their forms. If there is not a sufficient market or need, there would be no offers. In fact when I posted a thread about OpenEMR as a do-it-yourself project, the response was a huge yawn.

I was thinking more for demo purposes. It’s easier to show clients a form/template than tell them how we can make the form look like they need it to. I know I’m much better at visualizing how something is going to work for me if I have a picture.

Thanks much for the input and forms, it’s a great help!

If you were to import the Comprehensive Ophthalmic Exam or the Intermediate Ophthalmic Exam and put it on the Demo or your version of the Demo, the potential client can actually play with the form which is a better marketing tool than merely looking at a .jpeg file. Hands on is superior to just looking at a picture. The problem with the Demo is that it is fleeting. It gets re-set every night so that the LBV forms that you imported today, get wiped out tomorrow.

You may consider constructing a LBV form with radio buttons because most physicians don’t know how to touch type and include it in your demonstration. It is much easier to click an item than it is to type in the sign or symptom. The easier you make it for them, the easier the sale.

After I have finished the Wiki article about Meaningful Use Attestation for Ophthalmology, I will be happy to supply you with the list of signs and symptom and you will be off to the races.

FSGL,

your statement completely correct, the resetting of the Demo every morning. But if you can convince Brady that this is something that has to be included into the demo you can show it directly and if you do a SQL-data or CSV-data import you can show it with the data you might need. Export and import of data is something you dont want to do just before the resetting of the DEMO.

Remember the DEMO is fully functional and you can do whatever you need to do real time. If you manage to scramble the DEMO, next morning it is all functional again.

Hello Pimm,

Tony McCormick asked me to supply the config.sql file for posting to the Wiki; which, theoretically, is fairly easy to do. The sql dump of the layout tables and the lists option set was stymied by my semi-defunct module, which prompted me to start the thread about an alternate backup method a month ago.

I posted the error message on this thread and if I am lucky, the solution will solve 2 of my problems.

I think it’s best to post the config.sql file to the Wiki for the developers rather than clutter up the Demo. The developers are interested in the .sql file (if and when I am able to email it to Tony) to expand their “inventory” (for which they can charge a pretty premium) so to speak and I am sure they can incorporate it into their own demonstration rather than rely on the official Demo. For us non-geeks, “LBV Forms For Ophthalmology” in the Wiki should be sufficient if the new user is a DIY-er. Otherwise they would hire professional support. I configured my forms manually after studying your Wiki article; therefore other Ophthalmologists should be able to do the same, after a reading of my Wiki article.

On 2 occasions, I mentioned “your” request for a Delete button. SourceForge Support has been very kind to me. If you desperately want a Delete button, you may consider emailing the request to SourceForge Support, (sfnet_ops@geek.net). They are very nice to old people; so if you are not old, pretend.

Very very helpful, thanks!

FSGL: are you using OpenEMR in your practice? If so could you contact me at ehrdeveloper at gmail dot com?

fsgl wrote on Wednesday, April 17, 2013:

Yep x2, I’m using 4.1.1 patch 12.

I am in the midst of a change of Internet Service Providers, so I’ll have to email you after this transition.

If you could post your config.sql file of your nascent “radio button” Ophthalmology LBV forms to the Wiki for the Developers section later on, it would be great.

meddev wrote on Wednesday, April 17, 2013:

I’ve not installed the forms yet, I just forwarded the screen shots from the Wiki but I’ll do that after I get everything loaded.

fsgl wrote on Thursday, April 18, 2013:

On second thought, because I may have to replicate the forms on another machine, it would take me less time to do a Comprehensive Ophthalmic Exam with the laundry list of signs and symptoms and the radio buttons than it would to explain to you how to do it.

I’ll post here after the config.sql file had been emailed to Tony McCormick, who will scrub them before posting to the Wiki.

Hi Pimm,

Time for major begging.

Tony McCormick just got my config.sql file for my Textbox Ophthalmic Forms and I promised him that I will do a Radio Button Form, for the non-typists; after I get done with the Meaningful Use Attestation Wiki article (it should make OpenEMR more popular because we are not talking about chump change). He seemed pleased. Perhaps he will put in a good word for us to Brady and Rod. Should not be a big deal, but then I am not the big cheese and don’t have their responsibilities.

If Tony is too busy at MI-Squared, then I will petition the Pope himself. You and Kevin have been very kind to me. I feel that I should make a personal appeal, myself, for the Delete button and sticky posts. The worse thing that His Holiness (tongue in cheek) could pronounce would be: IMO FIERI NON POTEST. I don’t think he would take away our beloved Edit button.

Hi Pimm,

Can you post the link to your sourceforge tracker item. I want to clarify if we are able to set up the Delete link for users (only for their own messages) or if he is just referring to the option that the admins have to delete anybody’s messages.

thanks,

Brady,

it took me a while but I deleted the message:

status: open --> invalid

[feature-requests:#93] Delete a forum post in OpenEMR

Status: invalid

I am a member of the OpenEMR forums. They did a transformation new style and one of the many advantages is the option to change the message send to one of the forums. Now we can add, can change, but:

is it possible to delete a post that I did not want to be posted? I can’t find any delete POST button

Tnx for any advise!

Hi,

I am a bit confused. Your link above is going to a feature request item for Drug Inventory Enhancement. Did you make a tracker item with the main sourceforge team regarding a Delete button? If so, do you have a link to that tracker item.

thanks,

I think I got the answer by trial and error. If I delete the content of a wrong contribution in FORUMS it is deleted completely.

I did it with a message posted a couple of days ago and it is as far as I can see emptied, but not deleted. Thanks for the efforts.

It is still there but without any content.

Tnx, Pimm
