My name is Emmanuel Katto. I’m currently working on customizing the patient reminder notifications in OpenEMR and would love some guidance on the best practices for implementing this feature.

Here are some specific questions I have:

  1. What are the available options for customizing reminder notifications (e.g., SMS, email) in OpenEMR? Are there any specific modules or plugins that I should consider?
  2. How can I create and modify notification templates to include specific details relevant to each patient or appointment type?
  3. If I want to integrate with third-party messaging services (like Twilio for SMS or SendGrid for emails), what would be the best approach to set this up?
  4. What steps should I take to test the notification system before going live to ensure everything works as intended?

First trying searching forum topis. I have many posts concerning this subject. In the next patch I have added an email batch reminder for appointment notifications. I support fax RingCentral and etherFax. For SMS it’s RingCentral and Twilio. You can turn module in Manage Modules as this is a core module for our users. Only fees are RC or Twilio fees.
Also you’re welcome to add or fix module and I will be happy to help you get your mods in via a PR.

You can also send forms to patient to fill and send back for audit by user.
