Running OpenEMR on Mac Mini Server

I am planning to run OpenEMR on a Mac Mini server.  Are there any issues in the install of 3.2 to be aware of?

Thanks,

Howard

I’m working on updates to the wiki for a “native mode” installation on OSX.   The good news is “it works” but the edits won’t be ready till later this week.  If you have to have it today or tomorrow, give me a call and I’ll walk you through the steps.

Thanks so much.  I’m not there yet, but it is in the works.  Do you think the 4GB RAM Mac Mini is adequate to run with 10 users, or is the 8GB really the way to go?  I am going to get the XSTOR RAID kit as well.

Howard,
that depends on how much activity the users will be generating and whether you will be using the Mac for anything else.   When I have a choice about adding memory its easy - add the memory.   How are you planning to configure the RAID?   Call me if you want to get into details.

Howard,

Do you plan on using Hyalfax for receiving faxes in OpenEMR  on OS X?  The only reason why I stay with a Linux server is for Hylafax and the fax board I am using.    We run Mini’s as clients in the office.  They are the best desktops we ever used!

Mike,

I have IBM Thinkcentre S50’s in my office that I got off-lease for peanuts on eBay.  I don’t have any plans yet on efaxing, but if Hylafax has a Mac interface for the server, that would be great.  We are still using old style faxing right now.  My old server runs Linux.  I use Mac at home.

If you have any other suggestions for efaxing, that would be great.  Most of the info I have gotten about running other servers in the office have suggested that they are quite noisy and take up a fair bit of room.  The Mac Mini would be ideal for me.

Howard, our demo server is a shuttle (glamour) with some slight modifications.  It it located next to my desk and I don’t hear any noise (except when I forget to turn on the office air).   The mini is a good choice for power, footprint, and noise.
