Hi everyone! I am preparing for my first Open EMR installation and have an issue that I need to sort out for my customer. I need to restrict the patient demographics data that the doctors are able to see. For example, the email, telephone & mailing address of the patient needs to be hidden from the doctors in this practice so that there is no possibility of doctors mining the data and running off with the details of the patients if and when the doctor decides to leave this office. Only the receptionist should be able to view &/or modify this data. How do I accomplish this in Open EMR? Thanks for your help!
Hi, I’m sure you will get your answer to the problem very quick since openemr is fully customizable and the limit to what can be done to it is up to your imagination. My advices are: 1 A Dr has more to lose then a receptionist you should rethink that, 2 If you can’t trust your Drs with the patients data (Simple demographics) in your practice you shouldn’t hire them to see patients in your practice 3. If I was a Dr to join your practice and didn’t have access to the patient demographics I don’t know how I would feel. I think you should rethink your idea, in my opinion don’t let the Dr run queries but yes let him see the patients demographic.
But ………. if I have many patients and I don’t want to have the doctors, that work for me, give those doctors an easy way to contact my patients to mass-switch from practice or to start an e-mail offence……. I can think of more reasons of why I would not like to give an easy open Spreadshit with demographics, tel, numbers and insurance info….
@s0skillz- I totally agree with your line of thinking. The doctor told me that it took him 10 years to find his receptionist and he can trust her but as far as the Doctors are concerned he said, “This is Argentina, you cannot trust anyone”
