Referrer Doctor, Referrer NPI fields empty

Hello,

We’re using v4.1. Whenever we generate claims (to submit to Availity) I see that the referring doctor/npi fields are missing (even for the hcfa 1500). I tried using the default provider field for a patient to see if the referring info is filled. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I’ve check the “Medicare Referrer Is Renderer” field and still don’t see any changes!

There is an explanation of how it is supposed to work in this thread: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openemr/forums/forum/202505/topic/4775254

was there ever a solution to the hcfa 1500 field for referring physician?  I don’t seem to see a field in the program for “referred by”.  How does hcfa field 17, 17a 17b get data?

Isn’t that the mislabeled “provider” demographics box?  I don’t think it’s in the HCFA options or that other admin form thing.  I changed that long ago, so i’d need to look at a demo or fresh vanilla install.

Am using 4.1 in ubuntu patch 7 .  When I print a hcfa 1500 box 17, 17a , and 17 b returns my upin and npi.  This is supposed to be the referring md and his upin and npi.  I do not see any place that the referring md can be entered.  I guess that this should be on the primary insurance page.  There is as you know a misc billing option undervisit forms but no option to add referring md.  thanks for the help.  love the program so far.

Hi,

Think the referring doc gets populated by the Demographics->Choices->Provider . Note I consider this entry to be buggy, because it is used to represent the primary care provider and the referring provider at different places in OpenEMR (ie. it is not consistent). This bug and proposed fix (actually, pretty easy if anybody has time or willing to sponsor somebody to do this):

the only demographics choices provider that I see is under the reports , blank forms, demographics but this is only an intake form that does not populate the database.  Am I missing something?

I have yet been unable to find where a referring provider can be entered in the program.  HCFA 1500 lines 17, 17a, 17b are required for billing.

After you select a patient you have the demographics information in the top screen.  Select “Edit”.  In the top bar you will see “Choices”.  Put the Referring Provider in the Provider field.  It will populate the HCFA correctly.  This is a drop-down box so the referring provider has to be in the address book with an NPI number in order for him or her to be available.  HTH - Jen
