HI
I have been asked to come up with a system to allow a company to register patient details and allow appointments to be booked etc.
I note openEMR is ONC accredited, but does the company I am working for.
They are not a hospital, they treat patients at home.
Does it also allow the Patients, as well as the staff access to view the appointments?
Any help is greatly received.

Hi Bob-
OpenEMR has 3 patient portal options through which patients can view their appointments and perform several other activities. All are discussed in more detail on this page in the OpenEMR wiki.
Briefly, the ‘Native Portal’ is part of the OpenEMR codebase and serves a selection of the patient’s information from OpenEMR’s database to a portal on the same site where the EMR is installed. The ‘Third Party’ portal is administered by a third party OpenEMR vendor, and the ‘CMS portal’ is a separate Wordpress- based site that integrates to your OpenEMR instance. It is still in development but has the capability to incorporate Wordpress’ multitude of plugins into its repertoire.

Thanks for the response Harley, but does the company using the system need to be ONC acredited as well, or this the script valid enough? They are based in New York.

The ONC Meaningful Use Certification is something that applies to the Software not the user.
The user must register with the ONC that they are using a certified EMR to be able to claim Medicare or Medicaid incentives. If you don’t do Medicare or Medicaid, the certification has no “meaningful use” to the clinic.
