Problem with 1500 form Box 17

nursejeff wrote on Tuesday, March 11, 2014:

Whenever we use the Payer Type: Medicare Part B, and print a Form 1500; Box 17 Referring Physician and box 17B NPI, does not show up.

This payer type is the only one that we have found that these 2 necessary boxes do not complete.

Any ideas?

  1. Referring Physician & NPI should be in the Address Book
  2. Demographics/Choices, enter Referring Physician for each patient

Thank you for your response, fsgl.

Yeah, its filled out correctly, and it works on other payers, just not Medicare Part B.

My Billing Specialist, has just written the referring physician and NPI in when we rarely have printed claims in the past, but this one must be printed.

Other thoughts?

this code needs to be tweaked:

i think just take this out
&&
(empty($GLOBALS[‘MedicareReferrerIsRenderer’]) || $claim->claimType() != ‘MB’))

Hi Stephen,

It may not be a good idea to remove that Global option.

I do my own Visual Fields and in the past, A-scans; but Medicare insists upon using myself and my NPI in Box 17 and 17a. It’s rather dumb, but we don’t get paid if we don’t comply.

I have been aware of the “Medicare referrer is renderer” setting, but never got around to using it. If it works the way I think, we would not have to go through the trouble of editing Choice/Referring Physician for each patient. This setting would work nicely in our office because claims for Visual Fields are the only times (at present) 17 and 17a need to be filled in.
