I have a few questions regarding the inventory/prescription modules:
What is the actual usage of the template fields in the inventory module? They do not seem to have any real impact on the data entered in the Prescription form. Maybe this is a bug in the drugselected function?
The “Drug” field is mandatory although it does not seem to impose any checks on the data entered.
Against what does the drug search button perform its lookup?
The templates are what is called the ‘Sig’ normally, it is the standard list of ways that a particular provider prescribes a drug; size, type, qty etc …
I understand the reasoning, I don’t understand the functionality in the prescription form.
Also, I had posted an answer to the previous post and it seems to have gone missing for some reason…
I think we need to back up a little bit & explain the difference between the Prescription Module & the Dispensary Module. There are two distinct entities being discussed.
The Prescription Module allows a physician to write, record, transmit a rx to a pharmacy or generate a paper rx for a patient. There would be less of a reason for any fields in Prescription to be automatically populated because each time we write a rx, the name of the drug is different. The amount dispensed is different & the dosage, frequency & route will be different.
Most of us in the US don’t have our own pharmacy as part of our practice. Colleagues abroad often will have in-house pharmacies. The Dispensary module will enable our foreign colleagues to keep an accurate inventory of the drug stock.
The Dispensary Module is integrated with the Prescription Module for our foreign colleages to write rx’s & to have drugs dispensed to patients from the in-house pharmacy instead of sending the rx’s to an external pharmacy.
Our foreign colleagues can search for drugs available in the in-house formulary (list of available drugs). If there are drugs which are ordered in the same manner every time, then Templates can be used for that purpose. In large clinics with a large patient population, this is more likely to happen than in a small solo practice.
Indeed, a demo is worth a thousand words (Thanks, Ian).
Other inventory information will need to be supplied in a real world situation.
Dear Yaron, As fsgl said, the templates is only useful if you have an in-house pharmacy. I have added an in-house pharmacy to the Demo site and added Aspirin 75mg to the inventory. I added a template “Aspring Low Dose”. If you wish to prescribe Asprin Low Dose to any of the patients in the Demo, in the in-house drop-down list, you will see “Asprin Low Dose”. Once you select it, the prescription would be automatically populated by the information in the template as shown in the attached. Hope this explains the value of the templates - an old functionality that is no longer useful for practitioners in USA.!
Dear Yaron,
As fsgl said, the templates is only useful if you have an in-house pharmacy. I have added an in-house pharmacy to the Demo site and added Aspirin 75mg to the inventory. You did not see the inventory module in the Demo earlier because the in-house sale of drugs and products was not enabled in the global settings. So the problem is that on my local installation the template does NOT automatically fill the relevant fields while in the online demo it does (since now I see it works there). Perhaps I have some patch missing?
Dear Yaron,
As fsgl said, the inventory module has been around in the main installation from way back. Please check that you have enabled it in the global settings as shown in the attached. If after doing that you still cannot see it on your installation, I’ll suggest you do a re-installation. Did you do a Debian installation? If so, a re-installation may solve the problem.
