My practice administrators have vetoed OpenEMR, much to my dismay. Since we didn’t have dictation, I’ve created a PDF form for the NPs to use. While checking out OpenEMR I noticed that you can upload PDF quite easily. I thought someone might find my form helpful. Please do not sell it. I created it with LiveCycle. I’ve left it unrestricted so you can change it if you like.
I’d be interested to hear the reasons for the veto. There are pros and cons of OpenEMR, I’m curious to know if their reasons are much the same reasons I have in mind. Also, it would be helpful to know, if any of the system need to be revamped in the OpenEMR.
I think the main reason is because it is open source. I will be leaving In May and no one else is interested in using it. They really want to pay someone to deal with issues. From my experince with commercial EMR, I think OpenEMR is better.
There are 10 or more commercial support IT companies that will compete for their business if they were using OpenEMR. If they were using proprietary software they’ll be stuck with support coming from that same vendor, or from a software-certified support person/company that will ask for outrageous consultant prices because no one else can support their product. Law of supply and demand, never fails.
Thanks for posting the pdf form. It’s always very helpful to know why clinics/users do not choose OpenEMR. The apparent difficulty in getting support for OpenEMR has come up several times. We even just recently placed a page on the OpenEMR website that directly addresses that issue and focuses on the fact that the choosing of vendors/developers is actually a huge advantage for the consumer: http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_Support_Guide
