I am having a few bugs with the patient portal and payments since upgrading to 8.3. I was on 8.0 and was able to do test payments and posting them on patient accounts but now unable once upgraded. I have not gone live with my portal with patients and was waiting until this upgrade to do so. (waiting to allow patients to see appointments without scheduling which I was very glad to see in this upgrade! Thanks!)

Here are the portal issues I am having.

  1. Payment link on the patient side does not load. I get a loading button the entire time from my test patient portal account. I am connected with Stripe for payment processing.

  2. Portal Payments on the clinic side do not load when you click on the link. It goes to the portal audit screen instead.

  3. Portal messages cannot be archived?, it gives an error code - Request fail (500) - but when I refresh it looks like it does actually delete/archive them.

  4. Edits to demographics submitted by the patient do not come over.

Here is a screenshot of what the audit activity looks like when I submit a patient demo change request. none of the changes come over.

– 5. Portal Audit activity - It says I have 3 patient activities to do but there is only one (the demo edit I submitted). There seems to be old activity buried in my database that never shows up on my portal activity page.

6. If a patient or the clinic sends secure messages in the portal, it looks like you can attach an image, video, link, etc. because of the buttons on top of message page. You can actually attach an image, but it does not go through. I’m glad to see this removed for security reasons (especially the link option). I think all these UI buttons should be removed from the compose message screen. It just invites confusion that a patient or clinic person can attach an image, link, or video when they should not and cannot.

  1. This is more of a feature request instead of a bug. I am hesitant to allow patients to download all their documents through the portal. I would like patients to download some things, (glasses Rx, eye exam encounter pdf, letters, testing results, etc) but I don’t think it’s a good idea for their photo ID, and scanned forms that may have their SSN on it to be available on the portal just in case it does get hacked into. I was wondering if there could be a way to select which document category through the admin practice settings be published on the patient portal and others only be seen on the clinic side.

non portal issues.

Payment receipt when collect payment from Fee-payment screen, does not actually list the patient name on the receipt. We custom code it in but seems like that should be in the base code.

Eye Module Form: Medical history section. In v8.0 we could not add Family history, or social history. In v8.3 the FH, SH work but was unable to add anything for meds, allergies, PMH, surgery. We reverted back to v8.0 code for now but would like all of Med History to work in the eye form.

Thank you for everyone that has worked on and continue to support openEMR! I’m a pediatric eye doctor, not a coder, and appreciate everyone’s help getting this working for my solo private practice.

@Strabmd I think you need the professional support for this. Please PM if you need the help on the same.

@Strabmd
I’ll be looking over the bugs you’re seeing tomorrow. I’ll let ya know!

Thank you Jerry!

I am working with Steve W. for my site, but he suggested I post the issues on community support also as others have worked on the portal or eye module more. I also would like to see things get changed in the base code and not just my site so it’s easier for the next new eye doctor to start using OpenEMR without problems. The eye module in OpenEMR is the best EHR I’ve seen and used for ophthalmology and I thank Ray for doing so much work on it!

You are welcome Marie and Steve is correct. It is always nice to solve issues in public for other users.
I think Ray developed the Eye module way back in version four with Steve help maintaining over the last couple years. I will get back to this topic sometime today.
