Patient IOS/Android App

This discussion is about exploring the creation of a true patient-facing mobile app for OpenEMR.

Over the years, Jerry has done an excellent job building and maintaining the existing patient portal. It is mobile-friendly and works well in a browser, but it is not a native mobile application. I’d like to open a conversation with the community about what it would take to bring a dedicated mobile app to life.

I’ve spent time thinking through the technical requirements and have sketched out an architecture that I believe is realistic and sustainable. In short, a mobile app requires a bridge server that sits between the app and OpenEMR, handling authentication, API access, and mobile-specific workflows. I’ve already built most of this infrastructure, and the bridge server is currently running.

That said, similar to services like eRx, this can’t realistically be offered as a free service to the community at large. There are ongoing infrastructure, maintenance, and support costs that have to be covered.

To move this forward responsibly, I’m looking for 10 founding clients who are willing to support the project during its first year. Founding clients would subscribe at:

  • $65/month for the first 100 patients

  • $0.25 per patient thereafter

  • $7,800 annually

As a thank-you to founding clients, patient limits would be unlimited for the first year.

If you’re interested in helping shape a patient mobile app for OpenEMR—or would like to review the sketches and architecture I’ve put together—I’d love to continue the discussion here.
