OpenEMR Simulations

Hello,

I am an educational technologist at Bellevue College and we’ve been working on a grant-funded project as part of an 9-school consortium. One of our priorities was to pilot a program that offered students instruction and access to EMR systems, OpenEMR being one of them. In doing so, we’ve developed four simulations that have been very well received by our faculty and students. They’re an excellent hands-on approach to learning how to use OpenEMR.

They’re currently available here:
http://hiteducation.org/hew-member-college-resources/emr-simulations/#openemr

Four Topics:

  • Scheduling
  • Clinical Intake
  • Clinical Assessment
  • Basic EMR Administration

Total disk space required for these is ~385 MB.

Our grant is drawing to an end and so too will our hosting for these simulations. We are planning on disseminating a zipped version of them on SkillsCommons (link: https://www.skillscommons.org/handle/taaccct/2254 ), but wanted to see if anyone from the OpenEMR project had any interest in hosting them. We fear most people will simply not take the time to download and unarchive the zip - it’d be much more convenient to just click a link and jump into them.

We are pleased with the simulations and would like for them to be freely available to anyone who might benefit from them, but unfortunately SkillsCommons isn’t ideal for hosting this kind of content. We aren’t looking for anything in return - we really just don’t want to see these simulations fall into obscurity once our funding ceases.

If this is something anyone is interested in, let me know! I can also be reached at roger.adams@bellevuecollege.edu

Thanks for your time,
Roger Adams

Hi Roger, thanks for checking in here. That’s very cool stuff. We might be able to host them on the project’s web site somewhere, and Brady Miller is the best person to decide if that’s a reasonable thing to do. Let’s see what he says.

Of course the simulations will become obsolete over time if nobody is maintaining them.

Hello again,

Just wanted to follow up on this. Brady Miller, any interest in hosting these?

Thanks for your time!

Roger,

I would like to let you know that I have copied these to our server and making them ready for publishing. I have reviewed all of them in their entirety. They are very well done. They will be useful for sometime to come. I will post back once I have a home for them.

Thanks for all your work on these.

Thank you, Sherwin! Please keep me posted.

Hello Roger,

very good work. I have downloaded these and hope to have them uploaded onto an oncoming site. How would you like me to cite this project so that appropriate credit is given?

adamsrog wrote on Wednesday, June 17, 2015:

Hi Lams,

Glad to hear you’ll post them! Please cite it like so:

“These simulations were created by Bellevue College with funding from the Department of Labor.”

If possible, include a link back to http://hiteducation.org too.

Thanks!
