OpenEMR patch 5

I upgraded openemr-4.1.2 with patch 5 today. When I tried to open add a new ‘Practice’ there was just a blank sheet. My backup which had patch 4 showed no error on checking. This was repeated when I used patch 5 again on the backup. This must be a bug.

The 4.1.2 (5) Demo is on an Ubuntu server while my test copy, 4.1.2 (5), is on Linux Mint 16. My production copy, patched to 5, is on Windows 7.

All three have fully functioning Practice modules. A good test for the presence or absence of a bug is to see whether the problem is replicated in the corresponding Demo. It’s almost a sine qua non pior to the diagnosis of bug.

Could it be a permission problem?

I am on Fedora 20. Since I am testing openemr I used the backup and named it openemr-4.1.2p5 with patch 5 in the /var/www/html/ folder. Everything is back to "normal’ when I renamed it just openemr. I just do not understand why it worked when I had patch 4 as openemr-4.1.2p4! Firefox 28.0 is used with the address : http:/localhost/openemr-4.1.2p4 or 4.1.2p5. Strange!

If you take a look at the Linux upgrade instructions, the user is specifically told to rename the openemr folder without the version appended. The same is true for a Windows upgrade.

For the Ubuntu upgrade there’s a section about permissions when upgrading from version 4.1.0 or less.

I get a sense that some of this has to do with permissions for security reasons. Brady will have to elaborate.

It is not necessary to stipulate the version nor the patch of the copy in the url. Simply localhost/openemr is all that is required to bring up the test copy.

If you want to get fancy, the name of your computer or the ip address can replace localhost. The version/patch will appear in the login screen.

Non sequitur
Thank you ever so much for suggesting Linux Mint over Ubuntu. A bunch of us are extremely pleased with its performance and functionality. Brady’s XAMPP-OpenEMR package and Patch 5 were pieces of cake to install. Both were as easy as in Windows.

The easiest way to find out is to rename the Localhost Directory with fsgl suggestion, can always rename the map into the old name.

Mine is called:

…/xampp/htdocs/openemr

hope this clears up the Map naming.

Hi,

You should be able to place it in any directory name you want(I use openemr in the instruction manuals since this is a very good logical place for it and very important to do this debian/ubuntu/mint if want to take advantage of the OpenEMR installation/upgrade deb package).

Suggest clearing your browser cookies to see if that helps.

Hi Brady,

I cleared the browser cookies in firefox as suggested. OpenEMR-4.1.2 patch 5 (as localhost/openemr-4.1.2p5 in browser) login was normal and all the items in ‘administration’ were populated correctly except ‘Practice’ , which gave a message ‘Site ID missing from session data!’ on the first click. When reclicked a blank screen appeared. It was back to normal after renaming it back to just openemr in the server folder.

I just tested on LinuxMint 16 and naming it to openemr-4.1.2p5 still worked normally. I will try on another Fedora 20 machine to see if the above is reproducible.

fsgl wrote on Friday, March 21, 2014:

Brady,

If the openemr folder is not hanging out in var/www, will the backup script work? Will it be able to find the folder in a different location? I have noticed in LM 16 that the Terminal will not execute unless a change directory command is given first.

One day the OpenEMR software will be so popular that Hackers will do a search for OpenEMR, and of course find the easy admin and pass logins… then you will know why it is better to use an alternative than openemr naming for the Map.

But this is all explained in the OpenEMR manuals and WIKI pages ;-))

No fear of that, Pimm.

Everyone over at the American Academy of Ophthalmology website seems to think that if the EHR does not cost a boatload of money, it can’t be any good.

Colleagues would even prefer to hand over their medical records to online vendors thinking it’s “free”. It’s not a free ride when they discover the hidden costs.

I tried to raise awareness of OpenEMR over there, but no one was interested. I’ve since stopped trying.

So we should then seek solice in smug self-satisfaction, eh?

fsgl wrote on Friday, March 21, 2014:

Nice alliteration. Can’t think of a synonym for “eh” beginning with a “s”.

seek solace in smug self-satisfaction, “solinsmselsa…s…j…j…j…j…j…j…eh”?

Shhhh…, hackers might hear you. (or did you you look for something else?Like Slogin or Spassword…)

In the spirit of the indiscriminate use of the adverb, “so”: Seeking solace in smug self-satisfaction, so?

Pales compared to: 床前明月光 (In front of my bed, there is bright moonlight), 李白.

Sorry, Jack in Luala Kumpur. This is way, way, way off topic, but I’m sure there is always room for the canons of Tang Dynasty poetry.

I typed bla, bla, bla and translate in Google search… and got a YouTube video of a band singing bla bla bla… I like the poem. “I” for the alliteration does not count does it?

It’s OK fsgl. Back to business! I did the same with my main fedora 20 machine and I found that login with localhost/openemr-4.1.2p5 worked normally i.e. I can edit/add ‘Practice’. I must have tweaked my test fedora 20 machine badly … nothing wrong with openemr-4.1.2 patch 5! Good friendly batter anyway!

Backup script within OpenEMR works on any path that OpenEMR is installed.

Regarding “LM 16 that the Terminal will not…”, not sure what that is; provide a quick example.
