One thing that I have discovered recently is that when the CMS audits a provider for meaningful use reimbursement, they want ‘proof of purchase’ of the certified EMR.
Since many people download OpenEMR directly and therefore, there is no VENDOR to provide a receipt this can be an issue.
Going forward the OEMR 501c3 (oemr.org) will be happy to provide you with a zero dollar ($0.00) receipt on OEMR letterhead. Please provide screen shot of the installed version (or the contents of version.php) and the date it was installed to president@oemr.org and consider a generous donation to the cause. See the donation links on the main project page open-emr.org or in oemr.org.
They do and I do but so far the auditors don’t care. Provide a receipt or
fail the audit.

to quote the FSF, “Free software” means software that respects users’ freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer”.
So charge them by route of an invoice to be paid to oemr.org?
