Open Emr lab module problem

The Laboratory module in OpenEMR is not been used by any MA since the section was created; this is mainly because the design is not clear or user friendly.

Limitations of the actual design

  • The list of LAB services needs to be created in a separate and unlinked way from the Services list definition. In this way, the MA has to define the LAB services in the Administration/Service section in order to have them available in the Tally Sheet, but in addition, the same list, with more and specific information requires to be entered in the LAB configuration module
  • The Lab results don´t follow a standardized structure, i.e. ICD or any other classification like this
  • There are a statistic report defined that not necessarily shows the information as required by the different MAs
  • No individual outputs (printed or electronically) that update the lab results in the client record, thus, the service providers are not able to see them

Kindly suggest best possible solution !!

If you are using the IPPF branch of OpenEMR then it will work better to go through them. Or you have specific development-related questions you can ask them here. Otherwise I’m happy to work with you if you wish to sponsor some improvements.

Not sure who ‘MA’ or ‘Tally’ are. Also not sure if you have 4.1.2 with latest updates. If you do then as you stated, your requirements are definitely different than 100s of orders we process per month with no complaints from anyone.

So best possible solution for a developer like you may be to hack the current code / build completely new logic to your liking and contribute that better lab module to the project.
