(I have migrated this topic from the release thread, since I don’t want to fill it with these requests, which will likely become rather repetitive over the next several days.)
Tony,
Looking through the OEMR organization hierarchy, it appears you are the most accountable one there (ie. in charge). So, I am going to ask you directly and publicly (I have already tried private email) to address the issues I posted in the release thread regarding the OpenEMR Download page at oemr.org . Today alone, I predict there will be about 100 Windows users that will visit the oemr.org download page looking for a Windows version of OpenEMR 4.1 . I would consider not providing the link and installation instructions to the Xampp/OpenEMR (which is way easier to install) package that already exists to those 100 Windows users daily a serious disservice to the community. Please address the issues I listed in the release thread as immediately as possible; I will keep pestering you until it is done. If you can not adequately maintain the release page, then simply forward it to the community download page at: http://open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_Downloads
(note this is the second sending of the above message, which I initially sent this morning)
Thanks for updating the OEMR download page. I was starting to feel like the paperboy from “Better Off Dead”.
Please consider only providing the sourceforge download links, so then we can ensure sourcforge’s download stats tool is accurate(by providing alternate links, we will be adversely by effecting these stats). Note sourceforge’s download stats tool here which is new and is simply awesome: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openemr/files/stats/timeline
I see no benefit to providing alternate download links (please let me know if I am missing something). Note sourceforge has it’s own mirror system (at least 30 of them throughout the world), so there is no reason to offer more. Also not in the download stats that only 40% of OpenEMR downloads are from the United States, so it’s much more beneficial to the downloader that sourceforge chooses it’s own closest mirror when downloading: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openemr/files/stats/map
We are all busy. Do you not have the time to concern yourself with the following issues:
1. Posted alternate links to sourceforge, which simply downplays the projects number of OpenEMR downloads. Number of downloads, where they are from, OS of download are vital statistics and we get these for free is simply download via sourceforge’s links.
2. Majority of packages are not single-click (ie. only the ubuntu package is), so perhaps there should be some sort of installation howto link for those that are not single-click installs to avoid user confusion (otherwise, the user will simply open it and expect it to install/work).
If you do not have the time to concern yourself with these issues, then who does?
I am simply trying to figure out whom is accountable and get some reasoning for the bypassing of sourceforge’s download statistics mechanism (perhaps there is a perfectly sound reason); I am sorry that I care about issues such as these. I am going to simply now give up on this issue and just be content that at least all the OpenEMR packages are being linked to.
Please consider the following:
1. Add a download link for the OpenEMR Appliance that was released last week.
2. Consider only having sourceforge download links to ensure accurate download stats (discussed above)
3. Consider simply linking the download link to the download wiki page (note the old wiki vital pages such as download,patch,demo,install/upgrade manuals are still being maintained, so feel free to use this if do not want to use the new wiki)
4. Update the Demo link to the new 4.1 demo (note the old wiki vital pages such as download,patch,demo,install/upgrade manuals are still being maintained, so feel free to use this if do not want to use the new wiki)
