No Free Lunch

You are pleased that you got Windows 10 installed & OpenEMR running.

Your enthusiasm is tempered by a series of Microsoft snooping articles along the lines of this.

Dutifully you click “no” to all the questionable items & think seriously about switching to Linux.

The license key for the upgrade to Windows 10 is hidden, therefore any clean install will require the “Skip” step.

Despite using the opt-outs to safeguard one’s privacy, File Explorer has access to Openemr if installed on another partition. To maintain security for patients’ files, it may be necessary to decline Microsoft’s “invitation”.

There are online articles how to revert to the older operating system. I had Windows 7 with OpenEMR & a clean install of Windows 10 as a dual-boot; therefore I used a different method.

To get rid of the “Get Windows 10” app from the system tray & to prevent it from re-installing in the background, see this tutorial.

Only need Windows for Turbotax. I’m sure I will find a way to use it when Windows 7 is not supported in 2020.
