New search has some issues

Hi;

I just tried on the CVS demo putting in two patients from different states.  The Add seems to work perfectly, although I understand I was logged as an Admin.  I did not create a non-admin to test the add access by default.

The specific issue is that when I tried to search merely by the State, which is NOT in the "Who" section, it finds all, no matter what state is selected.

Which fields are actually searchable, and how hard would it be to make ANY field searchable.  I can readily envision wanting to list all whose primary insurer is UBH so I can make some change to each per the announcements we receive from their X12 portal, for example.  That would allow me then to select each in turn to edit, without having to re-generate the Report, which does NOT have a linkage to that edit.

Hi Joe,

Without addressing your first point I have a suggestion for the example you give about patients with UBH as their insurer. For a batch update like that it would be best to create a report that lists all such patients. Then, based on the output of the report, go into the system and update each patient.

The search feature doesn’t use all the fields. It is limited to some basic fields such as name, DOB, and SSN.

Jason;

Thanks for the feedback.  As distributed before even 3.0.1 there were four choices in the lower left; "name" (which is actually "lname" only, which I change mine to read in left_nav.php), DOB, SSN & ID.  I had thought the expanded search was broader so we could find patients to list for select by a broader spectrum.

It is probably a good idea with the new CVS to indicate the fields which are searchable - maybe with the "search" button text and a # in a contrast color, like green, alongside those which are searched.  Again, Idea is usability without being ridiculous, and with the full recognition that larger orgs will have slower searches with each included field.

MI2 has a very much expanded search enhancement, but we have not had time to check it against the development release, so we have not shared it.  yet.   I’ll see If I can pry some time out for that next week.  We have added (to the find) an “Any” selection that looks across all fields that are active in the Layout tool and a “Filter”, the gives you a popup of all the active fields for narrowing the search to just some of them.

Tony;

That certainly sounds like what I thought the search was to do.  I’ll be happy to trial it as well on my real data if you want (on my development machine).

Is it a stand-alone widget which only works with the demographics PHP, or does it engage with a larger number of files?

And should we test it along with the Options List w/ Add stuff from Brady which almost certainly interacts with it?

I will be happy to test any permutation we want from 3.0.1 thru current CVS.  Let me know.  Thanks.
