New calendar vs old calendar

Hey all
The new calendar looks good.  But I was used to the old calendar,  the new one is little difficult to use.  At least that is my opinion and my perception.

1. I can’t filter the patients with just no-shows.  Can someone tell me.

2. There is no vertical line or column to distinguish patients who have same appointment time.  The names are all seems grouped together…like this
00-ss,00-joe,00-mathew,…

So it is difficult to click on a name and I am sure a busy man will click a wrong name.

3. In the search parameter,  The category names don’t match to that in the add appointment category.

4. Somehow, I missed the thread about having ‘one letter’ sign to show the status.  This is not right, in my opinion. We should at least have within parantheis (N) mean no show, (PC) means pulled charts, (IN) in office, …Just one crypt letter is not good UI.

more later…

What are you trying to accomplish with the filtering?  Perhaps there is a better way.

The compact format was chosen in order to accomodate 4-5 or maybe more practitioners at once on the calendar.  Also there’s an option in globals.php to include more information for each appointment, which would be better for a solo practice.

There are a couple of assumptions in the new calendar code re event categories that could be relaxed.  I’ll be taking another look at these in the near future.

The status character was done that way at the request of a client.  But it could easily be made more flexible, or optionally eliminated.

Well it looks like the search feature is the same as always, or at least it’s not anything that I changed or added.

Hi Y’all:
I am not familiar with the old calendar, I have the new one. After real field use for 4 days now, here are the suggestions for some improvements:
1) The caption( provider name) name should be frozen in place, on scrolling the calendar, so that, one will know whose schedule one is using.

2) In our office we have 10-minute spaced appointments. So, typically encounters are taken care of in a batched fashion - 5 or 6 at a time.

I am hearing a strong complaint about having to scroll the calendar to the proper time slot, to process an encounter, after processing the previous encounter - picking icd9, cpt codes, justifying etc.

3) How do we handle ( calendar-wise ) patient seen at 11 pm on the daily schedule.

I will look at the above if no one can get to it, before me. Some feedbacks if there’s a better way of doing what we are doing will be greatly appreciated

Okhra, I’m not sure I understand your description of the complaint in (2).  What sorts of changes are desired?

Re the 11PM patient: assuming that is not within normal clinic hours (perhaps an emergency situation) then it’s probably not necessary to put the patient on the calendar at all.

Thanks Rod for responding.

In our office the provider enters the icd9 and cpt codes and justifies. They start with the appointment calendar-click on patients name, click on encounter, take care of icd9 and cpt codes, justify and then click on close. This takes them back to the appointment calendar and the frame is showing, some 8:00 am to 11:30 am. For doing the next one at, say, 03:00pm, they have to scroll the appointment screen to show the 3:00pm line.

They are tired of needing to scroll each time.

My thinking is, off hand, provide another popup, which always shows the encounters not coded(justified) , yet, and work off that, and the popup disappears when the list is empty.

Another thinking is to tell them that the working model is finishing justifying, then and there, with no batching(postponing). Then depending on the current time, the calendar schedule can be centered on the current time.

What’s your thinking ?

I think it would be good if the calendar stays onscreen, and when you select a patient it opens in a new window (or tab).  There are various other issues with leaving the calendar and then trying to get back to it the way it was before.  If we never leave it then all those problems go away.

This would go along with addressing the need to work with multiple patients at the same time, and so would be a very nice improvement.

However I don’t have any clients who want to spend money on this right now.
