I was kind of startled to be e-mailed through sourceforge with a question about getting data out of the Dos version of Medisoft. I thought here would be a better area to share ideas. Under the list area of Medisoft you can select a patient list or format a list for the data you require. Rather than printing to a printer you can, under the print menu, print to a file such as c:\ data.txt. You can open that file in Excel or openoffice and reorder the data in columns to match the CVS format for inport into openemr. You can save out of excel as a CVS file and import through the database area under administration on openemr. It takes a lot of work and trial and error to get it to work, but it is possible. A hint is to add a few patients through openemr and see how they come out if you export as CVS. I did the same thing for my CPT codes, fee schedules and insurance company files. I did not transfer any transaction data, just letting those bill out through medisoft. I also dropped ENS which I was using with print files for electronic billing with Medisoft, and went to OfficeAlly which is free and has worked very well with the X12 files generated with openemr. I have not gotten the return EOB files (835) to work yet under version xampp 3.2 for windows, but if I do I will have OfficeAlly start sending those back as well. I am only 6 weeks into actually using this in my office, but so far I really like the flexibility and I have gotten a long ways towards bending it to the billing part of my office. Once that is settled, I plan to move towards record keeping once version 4 is stable and certified. Another hint is on patient statements. I have used Medisoft patient statement forms purchased from a place called Medical Arts Press for years. They are much more professional than plain paper, run through a laser printer and have tear off return forms. They can be sent in windowed envelopes showing the patient address with enclosed return envelopes I was able to format the patient statement PDF to print to these forms and also formatted for the EOB billing note to print on these forms when billing patients. If you don’t have a lot of motivation and a 24 year old son to help like I do, it would probably be worth paying one of these developer guys on here to help, because it was not easy.
