Live CD - minimum RAM requirement?

lannym wrote on Wednesday, August 29, 2007:

I downloaded the .iso file yesterday and I have 2 CD’s that work OK on my box (512 MB RAM). I wanted my wife to check OpenEMR out, on a box with 384 MB of RAM, before we schedule an appointment with her physician to demonstrate OpenEMR. Both CD’s, when trying to get to the log in page for OpenEMR, failed. This was one of the warnings: “Warning: Missing argument 2 for helpfuldie() in local/emr/openemr/library/sqline on line 112. ERROR: query failed select distinct name from groups (Got error 28 from storage engine)” Both boxes are Dell Dimensions, but not identical HW.

I am assuming that this is because of only 384 MB of RAM in that box. I would like to verify this, before we make an appointment with the doctor, so that I can verify he has a box available, with the minimum RAM required for the Live CD. Minimum RAM requirement for the Live CD is?   TIA, Lanny

I just tested the 2 Live CD’s, on another box with 512 MB RAM. They work fine. I’m assuming 512 MB RAM is
the minimum, for the Live CD to work. Are there any other HW requirements for the Live CD? TIA, Lanny

Not to appear to be too slow but which LiveCD are you using?

The reason I ask is the LiveCD on the SourceForge download site is about two versions behind and likely reflects version 2.8.1.

Dr, Bowen: Yes, it’s an older release. It has a date of October 4, 2006. I’ve run it, without problems, on
two (2) boxes with 512 MB of RAM. I assume that’s the minimum RAM requirement. It failed, on a box with 384 MB of RAM. I’ve run it on my Dell Dimension 2400 and on my wife’s Compaq Evo D300v. Are there any other HW requirements for that Live CD? I want to be sure the doctor has a suitable box to run the Live CD on, before we go there to meet with him. TIA, Lanny in Colombia

You are really in waters where most of the developers don’t have much experience.  Most of us run dedicated unix / linux servers.  So I guess you are answering the question for the rest of us.

The live CD is a bit older version, possibly around 2.8.1.
