Does anyone know how to print a PDF form to an image (i.e. JPG, TIFF) in Linux? I am experimenting with moving our office completely off Microsoft and have been testing OpenSuse 10.3 as our desktop replacement to Windows XP Pro (By the way it runs better than XP Pro ever did!) In Windows I would print the PDF form to Microsoft Document Image Viewer which would save the filled out PDF form as a TIFF. Currently in OpenSuse 10.3 the only choice is to print to the printer or post script file. This defeats the purpose of going paperless.
Thanks for your reply Brent. I do have Open office installed. Here is my dilemma, in XP we would fill out a form in Adobe Reader and choose printer “MS Office Document Image Writer” which would convert the filled out form to TIFF format so we could retain an electronic copy. One cannot save the Adobe Reader form with the filled in values. So printing to MS Office Document Image Writer was the solution. Now in OpenSuse, I am able to fill out the form in Adobe Reader, but I am unable to find the printer equivalent of “MS Office Document Image Writer.” After filling out the form I would like to add an electronic copy to the patient’s chart. I want to still be able to the Adobe Reader forms that were created for our office use.
This doesn’t answer your question. As an alternative you can save electronic copies of your files in pdf format by setting up a pdf printer with CUPS. You will then print the file which will be saved to pdf format.
This might be what I am looking for. Essentially, I am trying to figure out how to print to another printer (i.e. pdf printer mentioned above) from the print menu of Adobe Reader. The only option that is there is the hardware printer. This would be the work around to Adobe Reader’s default of not letting one save the filled out form. So i need to look into CUPS?
Thanks for the tip! I installed cups-pdf and now I am able to print my "filled in" Adobe forms to PDF. This is a step above "our Windows XP method" because MS Document Image Writer printed as a TIFF, then I would have to convert that to PDF.
Everything can be done in our office now with OpenSuse 10.3. This is amazing - all the tools that we need ( i.e. OpenOffice, PDF readers/makers. openEMR) are free! And robust!!! I have started installing OpenSuse10.3 on our desk tops. I believe we are done with XP Pro and Microsoft
There are sometimes multiple solutions to our inquiries. Sometimes it takes a different perspective to get to a solution. This is the beauty of open source software. There are often numerous ways of arriving at a solution. The more you use it, you will discover that the posibilities are limitless. I too once used adobe pdf forms and went through the ropes.
