Layout Based Form not showing previously registered information

Situation
I have designed a layout based form: it shows up in the Patient menu, I can select it and I can enter data. The information is saved correctly. However, when I open the form again, the existing data is not shown. Is this by design? Did I miss a trick somewhere? If by design, how do I set up a form that actually allows data to be shown again (at the very least to allow registration to be completed at different times during a visit)?
Any help or nudging appreciated.

Logs
Logs show the data being inserted into lbf_data but never being read

Ignore my question; I was indeed missing a trick and/or did not check sufficiently.
For whoever may run into a similar issue: the information is not retrieved by going back to the menu to open the form. You should go to the encounter summary, where the form can be selected, reopened and completed.
