The lab I use is interested in creating an interface for openemr. How do I go about this? Who do I talk to or who should I referred them to?

I have talked to Quest and their local affiliate ACL in Erie, PA. They are interested in working with me too. I’ve filled out forms but haven’t gotten past that yet.

I had some dialog with labcorp and hinted at them perhaps sponsoring some docs with MI2/ZH and they seemed to clam up like I was a leper. Not sure what that was about, but I don’t think they will be all that helpful.

The certification for OpenEMR is with the MI2 Lab exchange. MI2 is already working with Labcorp and Quest currently for bidirectional interface. Tony will be able to give an accurate status here. Possibly why they did not want to talk further is because they are already working with MI2? I am just guessing here.

Neither Labcorp nor Quest really want to work with multiple entities for interfaces to the same software package. They will if the volume of business warrants it, but they’d rather refer you to someone they are already working with.
We have bidirectional interfaces with Labcorp in progress, results now, orders is being tested and will be released soon. We are in development for Quest with one pilot customer. If that goes well we will be able to expand that.
As noted before, we can’t add customers to Labcorp and Quest, THEY have to add them to our services. That’s just the way lab companies seem to work. So you have to contact them and tell them you want an OpenEMR interface using Medical Information Integration (mi-squared) and they will contact us IF they approve your practice for the interface. If the local rep is confused I’d be happy to talk to them.

So how does one go about using the lab exhcnage functionality?
The documentation refers to entering a site id, and token ID, but provides no information regarding where or how to get that info.
Can anyone help? I searched thoroughly to find the answer, but came up empty.
Also, where is the best place to post this information for other members of the community?
We are finding it is far more complex to setup “ancillary” elements of OpenEMR (email, fax, sms, scanning) than it is to setup the application itself. We would be glad to post what ends up working for us to make the setup easier for others.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Generally place stuff like this in the User Manual FAQ, and there is a link to some info on this subject there:
http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_4.1_Users_Guide#Frequently_Asked_Questions_.28FAQ.29
(this manual is also a great place to put links to docs on email, fax, sms, scanning also)

I think this is a great question!
I hate to resurrect a year-old thread but I have the exact same question.
How does one obtain this ID and Token?
How does one connect to the LEN to transmit lab requests and receive lab results?
Thank you.

What we have is Labcorp Results recieving. You can get signed up by contacting your LabCorp Sales person and requesting the OpenEMR Results interface from Medical Information Integration, LLC. IF they approve you they well contact us and start the ball rolling.
In development are Lab Results from Soltas, Lab Orders for LabCorp and Orders and Results with Quest.

Is this a service provided by MI2 at a price, or is LabCorp absorbing the fee?

Labcorp, typically, absorbs the fee. but they decide if you have enough volume to warrant that.
