Integrating fax functionality in OpenEMR (using EtherFax)

Situation
Hi Team,

We are currently working on integrating fax functionality in OpenEMR (using EtherFax).

We would like to confirm how fax status and confirmations are handled in OpenEMR:

  1. After sending a fax, does OpenEMR provide a delivery confirmation (success/failure)?

  2. Is there a way to view detailed fax status (queued, sent, delivered, failed) within OpenEMR?

  3. Does OpenEMR support receiving real-time status updates from providers like EtherFax (e.g., via API/webhooks)?

  4. Are email notifications or delivery reports supported or recommended for confirmation tracking?

We want to ensure that we can reliably track whether a fax was successfully delivered to the recipient.

Please let us know the best practices for implementing and monitoring fax confirmations in OpenEMR.

Thank you.
OpenEMR Version
I’m using OpenEMR version 8.0

Browser:
I’m using: google chrome

Operating System
I’m using: ubuntu 24

  1. I want to say yes because the is a fax queue dashboard.
  2. Yes, the a fore mentioned dashboard.
  3. Not to my knowledge
  4. A confirmation system would have to be developed. There is not currently an external confirmation system for the faxes as that they were received.

Thank you for the clarification and information provided.

Best regards,
Venkat

Use the etherfax portal for your account if in doubt(linked in fax app) but fax dashboard will show status i.e. Module waits for fax sent status before return from dialog or error in dialog and will show status if delivered, pending etc. in outbound box.

From my knowledge etherfax has been very reliable.
