Inappropriate Invalid Place of Service

Hi all, I just got back a response from medicare which states “INAPPROPRIATE/INVALID PLACE OF SERVICE”.  Where do I change that inside of OpenEMR to represent a physical therapy outpatient office appropriately.  Please help quickly since we have been stymied in receiving payments for various reasons since the start of the year. Thanks - Jen

Place of service is defined under Administration/Facilities.
You must choose the appropriate place of service for the facility, and have all the other facility information (npi, etc…) correct.  The facility that you do the billing from should be checked “billing location”.  On you Encounter form, you must select the facility that the service was done at, and pick the billing facility.  Note that this might be the same place.

Art describes where in OpenEMR to change this.  I’m guessing you guys have it on the default (11:office) when you probably need it to be 61 or 62 (inpatient or outpatient rehab).

Thanks guys.  It turns out that my Place of Service had somehow been set to Unassigned.  I could have sworn I set it at 11 which is what it is supposed to.  I couldn’t remember where that is set so you all helped me to fix the error in a hurry.  Man, medicare will keep you online for an hour to reopen and repair 12 claims.  Thanks again - Jen

ps - is it possible that one of the patches resets the Place of Service to Unassigned or am I just looking for rationalizations : )

There HAVE been facility errors in the past…but if you talking 4.1….well, you are rationalizing
