How to open an installed open emr

I have downloaded the open emr and am trying to open it. I typed in my computer name as the server as directed (http://Jammie’s MacBook Pro/openemr/, but when I do so, it says the server can’t be found. How do I proceed so I can actually use Open EMR?

Thanks,

Troy Tompkins, MD

Hi @ttompkins,

We hope that you can try by typing localhost/openemr/ in the browser’s URL will work but before that check apache/wamp/xampp is running in your system.

Thanks,

I tried typing “localhost/openemr/” in safari, but it said the server could not be found. How would I check that apache/wamp/xampp is running in my system? Is there any other way to actually be able to open and use the openemr system I downloaded on my Mac?

Thanks,

Dr. Tompkins

Hi @ttompkins,

To check the running processes in the Mac you could use Activity Manager (Mac Task Manager), where you can see all the running processes in Mac. if you found Xampp/Wamp/Apache in not running then you may have to find the installed applications in OS X Finder and if you found any of the application then you can manually start it. If no application found then you can install Xampp here.

Thanks,
ViSolve

Hello,

We have downloaded Xampp, and were wondering what version of Open EMR we should download for our Mac, we’ve downloaded the Windows version, but it is opening up as various folders rather than the application itself. Thank you!

We’ve also been following the protocol outlined in this URL: OpenEMR 3.1 OS X Macintosh Installation - OpenEMR Project Wiki
But seem to be getting stuck on Configure WebServer (apache2)/ Set up PHP step. I can’t seem to edit the terminal pages after inputting sudo vi /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and alternatively sudo vi /etc/apache2/other/openemr.conf

Please advise the next steps. Thank you very much!
