I must be missing something obvious, but I cant seem to find a way to delete a patient’s insurance from the UI
I delete every field I can but it still throws the "One or more fields were missing or improperly filled out. Please correct the errors and try saving again. " message when I try to save changes
I remmeber having this problem before. I was able to resolve it by directly removing the entry from the database, though this was for an insurance not associated with any claims or billed transactions.
However, I suggest to create a No Insurance or Blank placeholder and assign it to the patient. This maintains data integrity while effectively taking the original insurance out of active view.
It’s not clear why you want to delete the patient’s insurance data from the UI unless you want to show that the pt has lost coverage.
If the pt is uninsured when you’re creating the pt record you should be able to select ‘Uninsured’ in the provider dropdown of the new pt record and the insurance widget in the completed patient’s dashboard will display ‘Self Pay’.
However, different versions of OpenEMR seem to handle old insurance differently.
If the pt has had insurance then it got cancelled, you would enter an end date in that policy, select ‘Unassigned’ for the provider and click ‘save’ the new insurance info.
Older versions will put the old primary insurance data in its old tab and empty the primary insurance data text areas and mark the Provider ‘Unassigned’ or ‘Self Pay’.
In my local 7.0.2 demo, after entering end date and selecting ‘Unassigned’, when the insurance widget is viewed again in read-only display its primary insurance will show the last primary policy’s information and effective dates, but the Insurer will say ‘Self Pay’.
