Situation
I am a retired Physician and have a very small concierge practice in a home office. I want to set up OpenEMR on a laptop just to keep medical records for these patients. (Not cloud based.) I would also like to electronic prescribe scripts, receive lab results / faxes, and print notes. I would like to do this on free basis since monthly charges can’t be justified with very small patient load.
I am not a huge EMR Tech, but I can work a PC pretty well. I tried several years ago to set up OpenEMR and ran into problems and deleted it all.
Is there a very simple installation process I can use for this sort of thing?
Hi Dave,
Yes! You can set up OpenEMR on your Windows 11 Home laptop with a simple installation process. Since you want offline use, electronic prescriptions, lab results, and printing notes, you’ll need the XAMPP-based OpenEMR package for an easy setup.
Most labs require HL7 interfaces, which need third-party services.
Workaround: Manually enter lab results into OpenEMR’s patient records.
Enable PDF Note Printing
OpenEMR allows you to print patient notes as PDFs.
Go to Patient Chart → Reports → Print Summary → Save as PDF. If you not comfortable with this, we are providing OpenEMR setup services. Book your free consultaion
@DJM I hope you’re doing well. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any free web-based options, but one that has been tested with OpenEMR is WenoExchange. It’s easily integratable and works well. I belive you can get a free trial by contacting them https://wenoexchange.com/sign-in/
