Dear friends,
I’m using OPenEMR 4.2.2 and I’m populating the Drug Inventory. My knowledge on terms related to drugs is very limited. Can smoebody help me understand what the different items in the Add New Drug mean? Especially those in shaded in red?
Please find the below desriptions based on our understanding,
Multiple Lot: Managing products in more than one lot for all transactions
Combining Lots: Allows filling a product order from two or more lots
On Order represents stocks in transit(Number of drugs which we have placed order)
Limits : Minimum stock level after which we need to reorder the drug(Reorder points)
Global will be general reorder point and on site will relate to the specific warehouse reorder point
Templates relates to the** dosage levels** of same drug with different presentations. Each row in the Template represents a specific presentation of the same product. This will be used in prescriptions screen.
Lot number refers to groups of products related to a warehouse and to an expiration date, are defined by the clinic.
Transactions
Purchase - Records additions of New lots to the inventory
Transfer - Records movements from one warehouse to another
Return - When we need to return the product to vendor because expiration date has reached or the product is damaged
Adjustment - Sometimes quantity on hand needs to be adjusted according to some specific criteria or situations
I understand how to use the limit to set a reorder point for a medication or supply, but after that limit is breached where does the warning go? How are administrators updated on which supplies are past their lower limit?
Also, while I am trying to configure the pharmacy. Is there a way to chose which lot a prescription is taken from? I want to make sure the medications that are closest to expiration are chosen, but in testing it seems that they are automatically prescribed from the most recent addition to the dispensary.
