I am a web developer for many years, in need of an open source EMR system for a friend of mine. She will be starting a Ob/Gyn clinic, in Bahrain where she will be the only Doctor. What I need to know:
Are there any freelance developers that specialise in OpenEMR and can customise it to specific requirements (eg. change currency, add CPR instead of SS#, etc…)?
Robert is working on a cleaner and modern layout using Bootstrap. Is there a usable version of this?
Where to look for tutorial and general help with installation etc?
A General question asks for a General Answer. Don’t know about Bootstrap, but others can be changed once OpenEMR version of your choice is installed. Look into Administration => Globals…
But before you install, look for the WIKI pages manuals etc. in open-emr.organd if you have read it all, start reading the Fora. If there are still questions unanswered, feel free to ask, but most probably you can help us to answer beginners questions and start writing WIKI pages that are not yet there.
Robert Down’s work is not yet part of the stable version of OpenEMR, therefore it is not advisable to use Development versions for production.
Installation instructions are included in the Download page. If the physician does not have a strong IT background, the XAMPP-OpenEMR package for Windows would be the easiest.
@fsgl, I am a web developer and PHP/JS etc is something I do for years, so this won’t be a problem for me to customise as I see fit. Problem is I don’t have time to help my friend, therefore I would rather find a developer to do this for a fixed price. I will have a look at the Professional Support link you gave, but for now, Is there anyone interested in doing this for us?
Developers with the most experience are very likely tied up with the Meaningful Use project. As a result they may not visit here at this busy time.
I would suggest that you contact them directly via the info provided on the webpage instead of waiting for a reply here. I strongly advise against contracting with anyone not on the webpage.
Encourage your friend to understand the Wiki articles. Things run smoother when the physician has a good grasp of the application, even when she has delegated customization to another.
