Find Available - Probably a Newbie Question

dnicely wrote on Friday, January 08, 2010:

Just learned of Open EMR and downloaded to check it out.  Thought I followed the Getting Started guide prefectly.  I edited the facility, practice, added a physician, created a IN schedule for the physician, added a patient……then I went to create an appointment.  I can add an appointment for the patient by clicking on a time in the physicians calendar, but if I try to use the “Find Available” button in the “Add New Event” popup, it tells me “No Openings Found For This Period”.
What have I done wrong?

thanks,
Derek

I’ve never been able to make that feature work my self, I think there is a bug in there somewhere.

Hi

DId you set up a schedule for the Provider?

Its like setting up a regular appointment with a few differences.  You need to create 2 an In Office and an Out Office and maybe lunch.

Like this

Look carefully at the Category, Date (When the Schedule starts)  and Repeats (When the Schedule ends).

Thanks

Tony et al;

That is correct - the search works fine but ONLY if the “In Office” times are set for the providers.

Should I make up a simple how-to?  It might be a good way to help me practice the HTML with images Wiki.  Not sure how soon I can do so, but probably no more than a few days.

There is a lot of information about a lot of things in OpenEMR. A nice thing is that we need so much more information to keep people up to date with development and little problems encountered during use of OpenEMR.

If the misperceptions and lack of knowledge with Calender is a recurring thing it should be documented, but on the right pages of Wiki. Eighter as a FAQ paragraph. Or as and extra page in a special Calender chapter.

Keep on documenting so the hap-snap info in e-mails can be reduced to a minimum. Using information from the Forum in the documentation is one way to go to get the problems encountered under control for this topic.

It’s working.  But honestly, I’m not sure why.  I believe I had created the In Office, Out Office, and Lunch schedule for the provider correctly.  I only made one change to each of the 3 calendar events….I had originally used a repeat end date of 2099-01-01.  I changed that to 2015-12-31 for all instances (since it was the only thing different from the pics provided by aperez in #3).  And now it works.  I just changed all 3 events back to 2099-01-01, and Find Available doesn’t work again.  I changed them to 2099-12-31, and Find Available doesn’t work.  Change them back to 2015-12-31, it works.  So something with using a date as far out as 2099 breaks the Find Available feature.
But again, I’m new, so I’m curious to see someone else try it.

take care,
Derek

Tony, Pimm & Derek;

Tony;  I think the best way to address this is to add a note in the Users’ Guide just before the Add Event in the Calendar Instructions which explains that you must have the “In Office” schedules for the providers in order to find available times.  Otherwise they can only be entered manually, since the calendar has no idea what the providers’ availability is.

Pimm & Derek;  That would make more sense even than having me write a HowTo.  But Tony is the author, so I cannot simply edit the document myself.  If he has not edited the instructions (and I would suggest revising it to read "Instructions from ver 3.0.1) by 1/18, I will post a HowTo and try to make it a sub to that instruction set in the Wiki.

Derek,
Nice catch. I’ve heard rumors of a linux post 2035 bug or something like that. Please post this bug in the tracker here at sourceforge.

Joe -

The “code” for the user’s guide is an OpenOffice doc and a bunch of HTML and screen shots.  Just like all the code it’s checked in and contributions are not limited to my staff.  Feel very free to update it and post the changes or send them to me for inclusion.  No feelings will be hurt in the process, quite the contrary.

10-4 Brady.  Sorry for the duplication.  Didn’t find that doing a general search for issues that matched my problem.
Thanks to everyone!!  As I said, I’m new to OpenEMR.  Actually, I’m new to Open Source in general.  I’ve been reading a lot lately about both.  I must admit, I was a bit discouraged that I ran into a bug so early following the OpenEMR startup guide.  However, being able to post the question and get an answer back so quickly from folks that know the answers is extremely comforting.  So once again, thanks to all.
Joe, I’m confident my last IN calendar event will have long past by 2099.  But hopefully somebody will still be around.

Tony;

I looked all over mi-squared and the OpenEMR wiki and cannot find any way to edit the user manuals you have shown on the Wiki.  If you want to post me separate from this, I’ll be happy to try the edits on both the 3.0.1 and 3.1.0.  Also, what is the plan on the 3.2.0 instructions?

Did you ask for, and got the permission to edit?

Than login should be an option.

But probably you will get proper instructions from more chiefs of chiefs….
