Falls screening

Hello! I think there is a falls assessment rule or tool somewhere in the system (there is a rule_fall_screening_cqm entry in the clinical rules table), but where is it? How can I access it and use it for documenting falls?

Thanks!

Alex.

Could you be referring to the Questionairs that are in the system? There are no donated forms native in OpenEMR for falls. The AI tools in the world are greate to have to look up stuff.

Yes, the rule_fall_screening_cqm exists in the OpenEMR ecosystem, but it is a clinical decision rule rather than a user-facing form. This means it functions as an automated check within the system to support Clinical Quality Measures (CQMs).

While you won’t find a specific form titled “rule_fall_screening_cqm” to fill out, this rule is an integral part of OpenEMR’s clinical decision support system. It is pre-built into the OpenEMR database and is designed to identify patients who may be at risk for falls, based on data entered elsewhere in the patient’s chart.

How it Works in OpenEMR

In OpenEMR, Clinical Decision Rules (CDRs) like the fall screening rule operate in the background. Here’s a general overview of the process:

  • Data Collection: Information relevant to fall risk, such as patient age, diagnoses, medications, and history of falls, is documented in various standard forms during a patient encounter.

  • Rule Trigger: The rule_fall_screening_cqm automatically analyzes this information.

  • Alerts and Reminders: If a patient meets the criteria for being at risk for falls according to the rule, OpenEMR can generate alerts and reminders for the clinical staff. These notifications prompt providers to conduct a more thorough fall risk assessment.

  • CQM Reporting: The data gathered and the actions taken in response to these alerts are then used for Clinical Quality Measure reporting, which is crucial for various healthcare quality programs.

In essence, you interact with the outcomes of this rule through system-generated alerts and reminders, rather than by directly filling out a form with that specific name. The necessary data is captured through the standard clinical documentation process.
