Does anyone know whether the billing section of OpenEMR 2.9.0 is working correctly within the requirements of Alberta Health / Canada?
Thank you very much.

Hi Kb1,
While our company has not had any experience with Canadian clients (we’re taking on our very first this month), I was told when I asked around that the answer would be no but it could be tweaked fairly easily to work with the Alberta system.
Anyone (probably Rod) can correct me if I’m wrong on this but that was what we were told when we looked into it a few months ago.

I have no info about the Alberta system. But medical billing is notoriously complex and I’d expect it to take more effort than simple tweaking.

You’re very right, Rod, medical billing in incredibly complex. But, thankfully, most places have defined standards that, as long as the developers clearly understand them, can be developed against.
So, while the Alberta system *is* a lot different than the American systems are, they are well defined.
Maybe ‘simple tweaking’ was a bad way to put it though.

Hi David,
Thank you very much for your reply. May I ask whether your first client is from Alberta? I would be very interested in your experience. Does taking on mean that there might be a solution in the near future? Would it be of help to let you know details on the format required by Alberta Health? There is a manual called Hlink - Electronic Claim Submission Manual (offered at http://www.health.alberta.ca/professionals/H-link.html#info).
