Easier use of scanned images

All of our scanned images default to automatic sizing by the browser.  The auto sizing fits to width vertically.  This invariably makes the images too small.

The easy fix seems to be to turn off auto resizing.  But htis makes all the images huge and hard to view.

Does any one know a way of getting the browser to auto-resize using the width?  This would make viewing these pages much easier.

Perhaps the images as stored are too big?  If you don’t need so much resolution, you can resize them “en masse” using something like the mogrify utility (part of the imagemagick package).  This will let you resize according to a maximum width that you specify.
