Does Openemr have a drug drug interaction check like OscarMcmaster? IF no, then can be module be added on or is someone working on this already?
Another feature I’d like is a favourites list of medications for the doctor so that they can just click and select instead of typing out.
Oscar uses the free drug database at drugref.org, and it would certainly be possible and reasonable to program OpenEMR to use this also. However I wonder about the status of the drugref.org project; I downloaded the database files and they were timestamped July of 2003, and the web site itself does not show any news past May of 2004. Is it dead?
OpenEMR already has customizable pick-lists for medications and some other categories.
Neither Oscar nor OpenEMR have drug interaction checks. OpenEMR has been using drugref for approximately 18 months, and Oscar is proposing to add this as a resource. Drugref allows medical providers to look up drugs, to add to a prescription list.
To access drugref within OpenEMR, login-> search for a patient-> click Encounter at the top of the patient’s record. At the bottom left, you will see List Prescriptions and Add Prescriptions. Click Add Presription, and then click Drug Lookup. This looks up drugs using drugref.
This does not address your concern of drug interaction, this is only a list of drugs. As earlier noted, you will need an ongoing service to check for new drug interactions.
