I’m using this awesome openEMR for some days and found some terms confusing like visit and encounter.
When a patient visits to the doctor, the doctor creates a encounter for the patient with the new encounter form Is it possible we can use the one term only either Visit or Encounter.
Any view or suggestion, clarifications are welcome.
An appointment is something you do to make something in a certain timespan now or in the future to have a possible contact with the clinic or anyone in the Clinic.
A Visit is a result of an appointment and can be anything that that client has to do in the clinic for any sort of car.
An Encounter is the client doing a Face to Face contact for a disease or complaint.
So indeed an appointment can result in a Visit and can result in an Encounter.
Using OpenEMR all these steps can end in a happy client with a history of Appointments of Visits and of Encounters.
You can change any translated word in Language also for English words (Administration => Other => Language) change Visit or Encounter in the wording of your liking and see if it gives the wanted result.
Thanks for your reply you have very good knowledge of EMR systems, I just have one more query on this thread which I assume you know the answer
While creating a encounter for a patient there is a input called “Sensitivity” for which documentation says “High level will block some users from viewing
sensitive data, according to configuration settings”.
do you have any idea which level users are blocked from using high sensitive data.
Sorry, but I have no knowledge whatsoever on this issue. I think/thought every body with allowance to view a visit/encounter for this client can see the encounters of the past. And in the past I interpreted the sensitivity as something very important or just a normal issue/disease that can be treated without any emergency intervention.
Probably other Users have a different view and they will give you a better answer.
