Use Edit button to correct data.
It’s best not to delete an account. Even expired patient don’t have their accounts deleted, only marked as “Deceased”.
Never know when you may need the information. Patients can return after a hiatus of 10 years.
Had a patient who Medicare said had died before we examined his eyes. It does not take a great clinical acumen to know if the patient is dead or alive while sitting in the exam chair. We needed the records to prevent Medicare from recouping the payment for the patient who died 6 months of old age after the exam.
Mark a patient as “Transferred” in the User Defined box or “Deceased” if that is the case.

Or you can just click the delete button that is right next to the patients name in the demographics and it will remove all trace of the patient from the database.
Just had that happen by mistake.

This is actually an issue with openEMR. I have a provider office manager who wanted to delete an appointment so they clicked once on the appointment and clicked delete. OUCH. That deleted the whole patient!
As it turns out, you have to double click to open the appointment. Single clicking brings up the patient, with a convenient Delete button at the top (as you said Sherwin) and there are no “are you sure?” warnings. We will suggest code in the near future… even just renaming the button to “delete Patient” would be a minimal first step.

Developers have the option of moving the Delete button to the far right, out of harm’s way or burying it deep inside of Demographics, away from hair-trigger fingers.
