I need to show the encounter “type” on the “visit history” screen for patients. Is there an easy way to customize the columns on this screen (such as a list I’m missing)? Or does this involve custom coding?
Hi, while I don’t understand why OpenEMR works this way, if you go to Admin > Config > Appearance and enable “Enable Group Therapy”, then you’ll see that column in visit history. I don’t know what other effects that checkbox has.
I just asked Claude, the AI, and it said this about “Enable Group Therapy”:
Main features:
- Shows Encounter Type column on the visit history screen (what you want) - Shows Group Name column on the visit history screen - Enables Group Therapy appointments in the calendar (pc_cattype=3 categories) - Allows scheduling group therapy sessions where multiple patients can attend the same appointment - Adds group therapy options when creating/editing calendar events - Loads group therapy functions (group.inc.php) for managing therapy groupsIn summary: It’s primarily designed for practices that conduct group therapy sessions (like substance abuse counseling, support groups, etc.) where multiple patients attend together. The system can then track which patients attended which
group sessions. For your use case: If you just want to see the encounter type on the visit history and don’t plan to use group therapy features, it won’t hurt to leave it enabled - it just adds extra functionality you won’t use.
As with all AI answers, it may be wrong. But then, I’m a stranger answering questions on the internet. I hope you take it all with a grain of salt! ![]()
Wow! That actually works! Thank you @kojiromike !!!
