Because of distractions with ailing family members, I find that I am now two versions behind with Open EMR. I’m currently running Version 4.2.0 (4), but see that Version 4.2.2 is the current revision.
is there a way that I can get eMail alerts when a new version is released?
Must I upgrade from 4.2.0 (4) to 4.2.1 before advancing to 4.2.2? There seem to be essentially no posted instructions for upgrading to 4.2.1, so is it safe to assume that the instructions for the 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 upgrade, or a different upgrade, would be applicable for the first tranisition?
Are there any further upgrades anticipated in the near future that I should be aware of?
Thanks.
Several ways to “monitor” for new releases include:
Following project on sourceforge (albeit would be lots of forums posts to follow).
Following twitter, facebook, google+, or diaspora openemr feeds (we posts to these infrequently and just for announcements for releases, patches, or other big news).
Following an item above in step 2 is also helpful, because then will see patch releases that can include security fixes.
As a project, we have been thinking about best way to garner user listings (especially email addresses) of OpenEMR users. Been thinking of perhaps having a Registration option (in the About window) where a user can register the product (only would do one time) and could even offer it on the first OpenEMR login (option to only offer it 1 time to not annoy the user). This information could then be stored centrally by the project and used for announcements and occasional donations requests.
Next patch could happen in theory any time. Next version release will happen likely in 2 months or so after OpenEMR gets full MU2 certification.
You should be able to jump from 4.2.0 to 4.2.2 (via 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 instructions set) . Always recommend ensuring having a good backup or testing it on a testing instance with upgrades.
