Cash patients

zhhealthcare wrote on Thursday, May 06, 2010:

Hi
At the moment we don’t have an option to enter cash patients.  In other software that we use, usually, there is an option at the patient level and/or the cpt/transaction (line item level) where we can check/uncheck a column to “do not bill insurance”.  Another option is “do not bill patient”.

In such a case the item in consideration is not considered to generate a claim.  It however goes to the patient balance.  In the latter case the claim is generated but whatever the balance is is automatically written off.  If both are checked then the obvious happens.

Such an option would help in cases like Cash patients, Insurance patients who wants to pay cash for whatever reason, Capitation patients, so on and so forth.

We, being primarily a billing company, have come across such situations very commonly: almost every day.

I was wondering if anyone in this community has started to work on this yet?

Sam,

Interesting how you brought this up. I too have a client who is struggling through the same process. So far, I have no seen a way to have the balance automatically be due patient nor have the ability to not bill patient even after insurance billing is completed. It’s a manual process at the moment.

Even setting a dummy insurance company to “Self Pay” doesn’t change the scenario either. This would definitely be a wanted feature if you guys can pump this out. Not unless someone out there already has a solution or a way to do this, but so far I haven’t seen it.

Thanks,
Chris

There’s a cash checkout option if you enable inventory.  But certainly true that the system doesn’t help you very much in a mixed insurance and self pay setting.  That would be a good thing to work on.

Sam,

I forgot that you can not fill in the insurance section and leave it to “unassigned” in the patient demographics area in order for the balance to be automatically be “Due Patient”.

But this doesn’t help much for reporting.

This feature is coming up more nowadays because doctors are giving medicare patients the option to either self pay or leave because of the 21% decline in reimbursements.
another instance is elective surgical practices.

I am working on a comprehensive payments section which will cover cash patients, prepaymnts, family payments where head of household pays one check to cover different bills in the same family, etc.    Also a patient ledger is also required.

It is is being designed now after which I’ll post it here for comments.  I am hoping to have it out in a month’s time.

Thanks

What error are you getting.
If you get something like below, it is because you need to login.
“There was an error processing your request …
ERROR
You do not have adequate permission to view this artifact.”

If you are logged in, I think there should not be any issue.
I checked just now and the link
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=1245239&aid=3040507&group_id=60081
is working.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

There must be some permissions issues here.  I am currently logged in (and posting) but I get a ERROR This artifact is not accessible.
I had noticed this also when I attempted to access the In progress documentation link posted else-where.

The tracker link should now work (it was mistakenly set to private).

Thanks
